Playing keyboard or piano is a constructive and enjoyable musical experience. Because on a keyboard the keys are laid out in front of a player, it’s easy to learn and understand the order and relationship of notes. Keyboard is an instrument that both children and adults can learn for just fun or a musical future. Later there is also the option to go onto piano as the key names are the same on both instruments.
To further help your keyboard learning experience Christensen’s produce great keyboard song books with play-along accompaniments. This is an excellent aid for learning keyboard skills and developing good basic ‘ear’ and rhythmic abilities. Also, playing a keyboard instrument to accompaniment makes practicing even more satisfying.
Christensen’s make learning to play keyboard a creative and enjoyable experience for children. Our keyboard lessons offer a thorough balance in keyboard playing skills including playing by ‘ear’, reading music, chord and rhythm playing, and yes .. improvisation. We also support and encourage children singing to some of their fun songs, which is a natural way of developing their voice pitch and general musical abilities.
In addition keyboard music theory is taught and explained thoroughly so children easily understand theory. This is often overlooked by many keyboard teachers and schools.
Children love learning is a small group situation where they can interact and feed off each other with fun playing and theory activities. Group classes are limited to 2 to 3 children maximum so each child still gets adequate individual attention. Furthermore our learning material is compatible with other instruments so we can mix different instruments within the same class. This develops a child’s musicianship skills and confidence at playing with others. If parents would prefer individual keyboard tuition for their child this can also be arranged although we recommend trying our group classes first as they are very successful. All children’s lessons are on a term basis.
If your child is 7 years or under you may wish to also visit our Music Discovery Classes page.
These days you don’t need a cumbersome acoustic piano to fulfil your musical desire as electronic keyboards offer all the playing pleasure that most adults seek. Our individual keyboard lessons will help you achieve a moderate level of playing expertise with maximum fulfilment. However we can also cater for the more experienced keyboard / piano player who wishes to progress that bit further with their playing skills.
Casual or term lessons are available to suit your circumstances.
If you don’t already have an instrument Keyboard rental is available for students enrolled on a term basis for ‘in-person’ lessons. If you would prefer to buy a keyboard we also sell instruments and can give you valuable guidance with your purchase. We can obtain good quality keyboards direct from reputable suppliers. Renting initially is probably a better way to go to see how you or your child progresses before buying.
The rental cost for a 61 note keyboard with touch response keys is just $9 per week. All rental is payable in advance by the term or term’s remainder.
