Learning to play saxophone can be very rewarding for the musically inclined child or adult. Saxophone is the most versatile of the wind instrument family as it suits so many styles of music.
One of the main factors that make our lessons so popular is that we produce our own saxophone song books with great play-along accompaniments. For beginners in particular this is an invaluable aid for learning basic saxophone playing techniques and developing good rhythmic abilities. It also helps to develop a players musical ear. Furthermore playing a musical instrument to accompaniment is so much more enjoyable .. it’s like being in a band !
Christensen’s saxophone lessons provide children with a thorough balance in saxophone playing skills including embouchure (blowing) technique, reading music, playing simple melodies by ear, and basic improvisation.
In addition, children will learn about and gain a good understanding of the essential elements of music theory, which is under explained by so many saxophone teachers and schools.
Small group classes for children ensure each child receives necessary individual attention which is often not the case in larger groups, but they still benefit from the fun and interaction of learning in a group with other children. Our class sizes are limited to 2 to 3 children maximum ! We also produce songs and learning material that are compatible with other instruments so we can mix instruments within the same class. This is a great confidence builder for children. Individual children’s saxophone tuition is also available if required. All children’s lessons are on a term basis.
Note: If your child is under 8 years they would be too young to learn a wind or brass instrument. Choices for this age bracket are Music Discovery, Guitar, Ukulele, Keyboard, Violin.

Adults usually want to learn to play saxophone for their own pleasure and fulfilment rather than a musical future. It’s never too late to learn to play a musical instrument and Christensen’s offer great individual saxophone tuition for adults. Therefore we can take you at your own pace. Whether it’s beginner’s saxophone lessons or more advanced tuition, you’re in the right place with us. We can arrange term or casual lessons to suit your circumstances.
Saxophone rental is available for students enrolled for ‘in-person’ lessons on a term basis. If you would prefer to buy a saxophone we also sell instruments and can give you valuable guidance with your purchase. We can obtain good quality saxophones direct from reputable suppliers, and sometimes have used instruments for sale. However for beginners we suggest to rent first to see how you/your child goes before buying.
Saxophone Rental Costs range from $11 p/week to $13 p/week
All rental is payable in advance by the term or term’s remainder.
