Trombone is one of the more popular brass musical instruments and is suitable to various genres of music. Learning trombone at Christensen’s is a constructive and rewarding musical experience. We teach all levels of trombone playing skills from beginners to more advanced players. Interestingly, trombone music is read from bass staff and not treble staff, which we can explain further on enquiring.
Depending on a player’s experience level, our trombone students often play from our own song books which have play-along accompaniments. For ‘ear’ development, rhythm and timing this is invaluable, plus playing trombone to music accompaniment gives you the feeling you’re in a band !
Whether your child is a beginner trombone player or needs extra lessons to advance their existing playing skills, you’re in the right place with Christensen’s. We teach a thorough balance in our lessons, giving attention to embouchure (blowing) technique, ‘ear’ development, rhythm and timing, and the reading of music. We also teach children a good understanding of music theory using fun quiz material. (this is often overlooked by many teachers and schools)
Most children love learning a musical instrument in a group class. However class sizes should not be too big as children still need to receive individual attention as required. We take 2 to 3 children maximum per class. Another factor with our group classes is we use learning material that’s compatible with different instruments so we can often mix instruments within the same class. Therefore a child’s confidence and musicianship skills for band playing are enhanced considerably. Individual trombone tuition for children can also be arranged if required. Children’s lessons are all based on term enrolment.
Note: If your child is under 8 years they would be too young to learn a wind or brass instrument. For this age bracket we recommend Music Discovery, Guitar, Ukulele, Keyboard, Violin.

Adults can learn trombone with us just for their own playing pleasure or for playing in a band or larger orchestra. By having individual lessons, adults are able to progress at their own pace without the pressure of having to keep up with other players in a group class. Our lessons cover all skills including embouchure (blowing) technique, playing fun songs by ‘ear’, rhythm and timing, music reading and music theory. Term or casual lessons can be arranged to suit your circumstances.
Trombone rental is available for students enrolled for ‘in-person’ lessons on a term basis. This does depend on whether we have a trombone available at the time. If you would prefer to buy a trombone we also sell instruments and can give you valuable guidance with your purchase. We can obtain good quality trombones direct from reputable suppliers.
Trombone Rental Cost is $13 p/week. All rental is payable in advance by the term or term’s remainder.
