Violin is the most popular of the bowed string instrument family. They are relatively inexpensive compared to many other instruments and are smaller and light to hold and therefore suitable to children and adults.
When learning violin from Christensen’s, students play from violin song books with great play-along accompaniments. This makes playing violin more fun plus a player learns rhythm and timing much more easily. It also helps to develop a players musical ear.
Some schools and teachers make learning violin a tedious task for children. However at Christensen’s we recognise that if a child is enjoying their instrument and playing fun songs, they advance much quicker and are more likely to stay with it. At our violin lessons children gain skills at playing by ‘ear’, reading music, playing rhythm to easy songs and even basic improvisation.
In addition, we teach music theory in a way that children easily grasp and understand the basic elements of theory.
Children love learning in small groups. They like the experience of playing with other children and provided the group sizes are not to large, they receive individual attention as required. Our class sizes are limited to 2 to 3 children maximum ! Furthermore much of our learning material is compatible with other instruments so we can mix different instruments within a class .. great for developing a child’s musicianship skills. Individual children’s violin tuition is also available if required. All children’s lessons are on a term basis.

Quite often adults can have the desire to play a violin but for their own pleasure and fulfilment. They don’t want to become teachers or perform in bands. By having individual lessons, adults can go steadily at their own pace which ensures learning the violin will be a pleasurable experience for them. Christensen’s individual violin tuition for adults is second to none and yes .. beginner’s are very welcome ! We can arrange term or casual lessons to suit your circumstances.
We do have a limited number of violins available for children and adults enrolled for ‘in-person’ lessons on a term basis. If you would prefer to buy a violin we also sell instruments and can give you valuable guidance with your purchase. We can obtain good quality violins direct from reputable suppliers. However for beginners we suggest to rent first to see how you or your child goes before buying.
Violin Rental Costs: Children’s size $8 p/wk; 4/4 size $9 p/wk
All rental is payable in advance by the term or term’s remainder.
